The Fabre Museum in Montpellier


built between the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, the Fabre Museum is located in the heart of Montpellier and was originally composed of three buildings:






  • A Jesuit college
  • A mansion the painter François-Xavier Fabre
  • An old library

After four years of complex renovation and restructuring, the Fabre museum reopens in February 2007 with twice as much space. The Fabre museum now has contemporary works as works dating from the fourteenth century. The museum has a thousand paintings and 150 sculptures, 4,500 drawings and, for some of the most beautiful in France. During the renovation period of Conservation took the opportunity to restore some 900 works.

The famous French artist Pierre Soulages, whose origins are in Sète, unveiled its work during the opening night of the new museum. His exhibition occupies two rooms of the museum and covers 54 years of his artistic career, and consists of twenty of its own data and eleven other works on loan to the museum.
