This sign now belongs to a bookstore and stationery. The room was occupied until 1993 by an artisan who sold the original Portuguese tile and painted pottery.
The ceramist has shown its sign the golden age of Portugal, the fifteenth century. A ship is sailing on his cross of the Order of Christ, the great religious kings Portuguese age of discovery. This is the time when, thanks to the caravels, Bartolomeu Dias and Vasco da Gama discovered the route to India around Africa to the south. It was also during this golden age of the XV that Portugal is developing the art of painted pottery.
The craftsman, while it evokes the great story, makes a play on words using French Portuguese accent.
